Bulabog-Putian National Park

Bulabog-Putian National Park

The only limestone mountain in Iloilo, Bulabog Putian National Park (BPNP) covers an area of 854.33 hectares (2,111.1 acres) and spans the towns of Dingle and San Enrique.

The park features the Bulabog Putian mountains, where you’ll find Putian Peak, the highest point in Central Iloilo. The park also hosts 13 caves with Maestranza Cave, Guiso Cave and Lapuz Lapuz Cave being the most prominent. These caves are home to 18 different bat species with a population reaching as much as 20,000. Within the national park is a lake and Moroboro dam.

Aside from bats, Bulabog Putian National Park is a haven for other animals and plants. Philippine coucal, turtle doves, monkeys, and pigeons can all be sighted in the park, along with various hardwood trees, including molave and narra.

During the Lenten season, Bulabog Putian becomes a destination for Catholic devotees from nearby towns who participate in the Holy Week tradition of the Way of the Cross procession, reenacting Jesus’ walk to Calvary.

Bulabog Putian was declared a national park in 1961 during the time of President Carlos P. Garcia.

By Jeep to Dingle
While the park covers portions of Dingle and San Enrique, the jumpoff point is located in Dingle.

Look for jeepneys with signage indicating “Dingle”. A jeepney departs every 10 to 20 minutes, though they may leave earlier if full. Operating hours are typically from 5:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Get off at Dingle Terminal Market. Travel time is around an hour but may take longer depending on road traffic condition and other passengers getting on and off the jeep.

At the terminal market, you will find tricycles bound to Moroboro. The tricycle will take you near the entrance of the park. Register and pay the entrance fee.

The park has concrete trails and steelways so it is highly accessible. Hiring a tour guide is not even required.
